Welcome from the Chair of Governors

Welcome to Dawley Brook Primary School. Thank you for choosing to visit our website to find out about the work that our governors do in support of our wonderful school. At Dawley Brook, we believe that children learn and flourish when they feel safe and happy to come to school. We therefore work hard to develop the personal and social skills of our children, rooted in mutual respect and high expectations. We aim to offer the highest possible academic standards, supporting the expectation that all pupils are encouraged to do their very best.

Our governors come from a wide range of backgrounds. We have staff and parent governors who have direct links to the school, governors appointed by the Local Authority, and governors who have been co-opted to serve on the governing body in view of the particular skills they offer. The diversity of skills, experience and expertise we possess as a team enables us to challenge, support and complement the work of the school. The governing body meet as often as required, meeting once each term as a minimum. Our membership structure is currently as follows:

The work of the Governing Body

We have termly meetings in place with governors carrying out delegated monitoring and evaluation between meetings aligned to a scheduled programme of work. In addition, we also have statutory committees in place for the purposes of performance management, pay, appeals, disciplinary and dismissal matters. Governors have subject links and areas of specific responsibility attached to their roles and visit the school on a regular basis to meet with staff and pupils.

Whole School Community – Our Role

As a governing body, we believe that our parents, carers, pupils, staff, governors and members of the wider local community all have an equally important part to play in the success of our school. Your views are important to us, and we are always pleased to hear your suggestions as to how we can improve. If you would like to pass on a suggestion for school improvement, or if you are interested in becoming a school governor, I can be contacted via the school office for further information.
