WHAT IS OAK TREE SEND BASE

Oak Tree SEND Base is a specialist class based within our highly-inclusive mainstream school. Ofsted have recently inspected our school (March 2024) including Oak Tree SEND Base and found that:

"The highly inclusive culture is one of the stand-out features of Dawley Brook."

"Staff identify pupils with SEND and provide them with the resources and support they need to

succeed. For those pupils with higher needs, including those who attended the resource base, the curriculum is adapted well. As a result, these pupils are settled and making good progress with

their learning."

At this time, we can accept 6 children to the setting. We currently have 5 children in Oak Tree Base (May 2024).

All children within Oak Tree SEND Base have an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP). Dawley Brook Primary School does not decide which children are admitted Oak Tree. Children are only admitted through the process of 'naming' the setting within Section I of their EHCP. You should speak with your child's SEND Case Officer if you require further information.

We offer specialised teaching and resources designed to deliver provision as set out by individual children's Education, Health and Care plans (EHCP). Staffing ratios are higher than in a mainstream class and staff are recruited and trained to offer skills and expertise in supporting children with SEND.

All children are placed on roll at Dawley Brook Primary School. We offer a 'hybrid' model where we monitor the development of children within Oak Tree, supporting them to access activities alongside peers in the mainstream classroom where appropriate. These activities may be learning opportunities including Phonics, Maths and other lessons or enrichment activities such as the annual Nativity play, our weekly Praise Assembly or other whole-school events.

We do school visits for families wanting to see our setting. We recommend that you make arrangements with us to visit if you feel Oak Tree SEND Base could be the right setting for your child. Please call the School Office on 01384 818770 to make an appointment. (These are currently on selected Thursdays during term time at 10:30am.)
